In what can be termed as a sad day, two terrorist incidents have occurred in France. The first incident happened in the Notre Dame cathedral in Nice where a knifeman beh*aded an elderly female parishioner and a male church warden.

The gunmen also fatally stabbed a second woman, wounded several others before he was shot and subsequently arrested by the police, Daily Mail reports.

In another development, another gun-wielding man was fatally shot after he threatened people on the streets of Avignon while shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

However, the attack has been condemned by the French Council of the Muslim Faith. As a result of this, the council urged Muslims in France to cancel all the Mawlid festivities.

Mawlid is celebrated by some Muslims to mark the birthday of Islam's Prophet Mohammed.

The council wrote:

“I strongly condemn the terrorist attack that took place near the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice. As a sign of mourning and solidarity with the victims and their families, I call on the Muslims of France to cancel all the Mawlid festivities."

Also, the Turkish Foreign Ministry while offering their condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives, strongly condemned the attack.

The statement read in part:

“There is no reason that can justify killing a person or justify violence. It is clear that those who organized such a brutal attack in a holy place of worship do not have any religious, humanitarian and moral values."
