President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, October 28, warned Nigerians that the country can't bear another round of lockdown as the economy is too fragile.

He explained that despite the fact that Nigeria has successfully managed the coronavirus pandemic the people should not stretch their luck too far.

The president disclosed this in a message to Muslims commemorating the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) issued on Wednesday, October 28, by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

Legit.ng gathered that the Nigerian leader gave the warning, adding that though they have managed to keep the number of cases as low as possible, everyone must do all they can to avert the second wave of the pandemic.

He said:

“Looking at the trends in the other countries, we must do all we can to avert the second wave of the pandemic. We must make sure that our cases, which have gone down, do not rise again. Our economy is too fragile to bear another round of lockdown.”

Buhari went on to urged all citizens, particularly the youths to shun all negative tendencies as manifested in the recent hijacking of peaceful protests to loot and destroy public and private property.

The president consequently appealed to Nigerians to strictly observe all COVID-19 protocols including social distancing, the wearing of face masks, and washing of hands.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the federal government declared Thursday, October 29, as a public holiday to mark this year's Eidul-Mawlid celebration in commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
