Madrid came into the match off their impressive El Clasico win over Barcelona in the La Liga and were looking to build on the momentum.

However, the Spanish giants laboured through their Tuesday night, October 27, tie at Borussia-Park to secure their first point of the Champions League.

The visitors started the match on an impressive note, with Karim Benzema nearly bagging the opener inside two minutes of game play but his shot across the face of the goal only rested in the roof of the net.

The Frenchman almost set up Casemiro 10 minutes before the half-hour mark but saw his low shot deflected for a corner kick.

Marcus Thuram went on to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute, with the Mönchengladbach star finding the back of the net after he benefited from Plea's assist on the right wing.

The second half of the match saw the hosts continue from where they left as Thuram doubled Mönchengladbach's lead in the 58th minute, combining perfectly with Plea once again.

The Bundesliga side thought they had nicked a win at home only for Real to spring a comeback in the last minutes of the match.

Benzema was first to pull one back for Los Blancos in the 87th minute before Casemiro equalising at the death to ensure both sides share the spoils.

The draw saw Zinedine Zidane's men pick their first point in Group B of the European competition having lost their tournament opener to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar top the standings of the pool with four points after they drew 0-0 against Inter Milan in the other fixture.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Sergio Ramos pulled off a world-class tackle on Lionel Mess during Real Madrid's clash with Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Los Blancos captain made a record-breaking 45th El Clasico appearance and made the difference in the game.

The 34-year-old was named man-of-the-match for his five-star performance at Camp Nou scoring a penalty and making some decisive clearances in the match.
