Akwa Ibom youths meet, vow to forestall further violence, looting

- Youths in Akwa Ibom have denounced the looting spree witnessed in some parts of the state recently

- Honourable Monday Eyoh, a youth leader who convened a meeting, said it is crucial to call the hoodlums to order

- The former lawmaker also commended the Nigeria Police Force for quickly swinging into action to apprehend the troublemakers

Youth leaders across Akwa Ibom have commenced efforts to prevent further looting in Uyo, the state capital after the #EndSARS protest in the state was hijacked by hoodlums.

Convener of the Uyo Youth meeting, Honourable Monday Eyoh, said it is crucial to call all youth representatives from the 14 wards making up Uyo local government area, to a meeting.

The meeting which held on Sunday, October 25 had in attendance various youth leaders and political leaders in the area.

Eyoh said at the meeting:

“I'm urging perpetrators of these widespread acts of violence to put an end to this hooliganism. We will not allow people come to raze down private and public property in Uyo.”

In his vote of thanks at the event, the special assistant to the governor on local media, Prince Emmanuel Sam, commended the youths for their commitment to peace and thanked the governor for setting a template to keep the state on a peaceful and progressive path.

Recall that the state executive council of the Akwa Ibom government had earlier cautioned against the politicization or hijack of the #EndSARS protests in the state.

The council also urged all citizens to commit the country to prayers and engage in activities and discourse that will magnify Nigeria's unity and promote peace.

Governor Emmanuel had earlier called for youths to be carried along in the new initiative to commence community policing nationwide.

The Akwa Ibom governor made the pronouncement on Tuesday, October 13 when #EndSARS protesters in the state visited him in Government House, Uyo to air their grievances over the increasing cases of police brutality nationwide.
