Release all COVID-19 palliatives nationwide now, NLC tells FG, state govts
- The Nigeria Labour Congress is concerned about the hoarded palliatives across the nation

- The NLC said giving out the palliatives will serve the needy in the society and should be immediately distributed to those who need them

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged federal and state governments to release all COVID-19 palliatives still stored in warehouses across the country.
This was contained in a statement sent to journalists on Monday, October 26 and signed by the NLC president, Comrade Ayubba Wabba.

Part of the statement read:
“The Nigeria Labour Congress demands that the federal government should order the immediate release of all the welfare provisions and materials to citizens.”
Meanwhile, a foremost political scholar and visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Dr. Uche Igwe has described state governors who stored palliatives meant for distribution to hungry citizens as pretenders.
Dr. Igwe expressed shock that food items meant for the down trodden were kept by governors even during the COVID-19 lockdown.
In a statement sent to journalists on Monday, October 26, Igwe described the act of the governors as sheer wickedness, adding that it is inexcusable.
He, however, praised some governors like Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state for promptly distributing the palliatives to the population on time.
Meanwhile, many hoodlums on Monday, October 26, invaded a warehouse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where COVID-19 palliatives were stored.
The storehouse located in the Gwagwalada area council is known to be owned by the agricultural and rural development secretariat of the FCT's administration.
Looting of warehouses suspected to be housing COVID-19 palliatives have been reoccurring in several parts of the country since last week.
While some have justified the massive looting and blaming it on hunger, others say it is outright theft and due to greed.
