Looting: Adamawa state governor imposes 24-hour curfew

- Adamawa has imposed a 24-hour curfew beginning from Sunday, October, 25

The governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri just like many other governors in Nigeria has taken proactive steps to protect the lives and property of citizens.

Fintiri in a special broadcast on Sunday, October 25, imposed a 24-hour curfew throughout the state, citing a breakdown of law and order in the state's capital, Yola, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

According to him, the development followed the activities of some misguided elements who broke into state government warehouses and carted away COVID-19 palliatives.

The Adamawa governor went on to issues a stern warning that the government will not fold its hands and allow some elements to destabilise the relative peace enjoyed in the state.

He said:

“Fellow citizens, we cannot allow hoodlums and misguided elements to operate unchallenged when we are already battling with the challenges of insurgency, kidnapping, cattle rustling, banditry and farmer/herders’ clashes.
“In view of the above, I have declared and imposed an indefinite curfew throughout the State, beginning from 3 o’clock Sunday, 25th of October, 2020.”

He warned advise that the movement of vehicles, is prohibited during the curfew except for those that are authorized.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Udom Emmanuel on Thursday, October 22 declared a curfew effective 9 pm till midday Friday, October 23.

The governor said the action was taken to protect the lives and property of citizens and the restoration of law and order in Akwa Ibom state.

As a follow-up, the Akwa Ibom government issued a stern warning to hoodlums disguising as #EndSARS protesters and burning properties in the state.

Similarly, Governor Willie Obiano on Thursday, October 22, declared a 24-hour curfew in Anambra which took effect immediately.

Obianosaid that he was forced to make this necessary move in a bid to avoid the descent into anarchy following the state-wide violence that has come as an offshoot of the EndSARS protests.

He, therefore, ordered that all schools and businesses in the state be closed and that gatherings of all sorts are banned from 8 pm.
