Ozan Kabak could come in a replacement for injured Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool contact German club Schalke for a possible signing of the defender for an initial £20million.

UK outlet Mirror are reporting that the 20-year-old has impressed Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool boss is hoping to bringing the centre-back to Anfield in January.

It was gathered that the reigning Premier League champions have officially notified the German club after confirming their defender Van Dijk who recently suffered a torn cruciate ligament will likely be out of action for the entire season.

Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow after scans establishing Virgil van Dijk will require a surgery after he picked a knee injury during the Merseyside Derby with Everton.

The centre-back did not last long during the tense Saturday, October 17, clash and had to be withdrawn just minutes into the match.

Van Dijk sustained the injury after a reckless tackle from Everton keeper Jordan Pickford, with Liverpool confirming the defender damaged his anterior cruciate ligament.

Whereas a club statement released on Sunday, October 18, did not provide a time frame on when Van Dijk will be expected to return to action, it is understood that the Dutchman is unlikely to feature again this season.

And the Reds have turned their eye into the market shopping for a formidable replacement.

Kabak is valued at £40million by his club before covid-19 ravaged the game's finances, however they are looking to increase the player’s value to £30million, but Liverpool are preparing a deal that would see them pay an initial £20million.

He has been at Schalke for just over a year after arriving from Stuttgart for £13million when they triggered a clause in his contract.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United target Luis Gomes has been hailed 'the next Luis Figo' as his style of play has drawn comparisons with the legendary football icon, according to reports from UK outlet Mirror.

The 16-year-old wonderkid could be moving to the Old Trafford as the Red Devils are preparing a bid for him despite him signing his first professional contract in October.

Gomes recently signed a 5-year-deal with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, however it is claimed that United are already to snap-up the player having agreed a first-refusal option should Lisbon decide to sell.
