Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has slammed Harry Maguire for his challenge on Cesar Azpilicueta during Man United's draw at Old Trafford.

Maguire appeared to have escaped punishment after he appeared to headlock Azpilicueta midway the heavyweight clash.

After a largely cagey opening half, the encounter sprang to life moments before the break as Édouard Mendy almost put the ball through his own net with a stray pass but made up for his nearly costly mistake with important saves.

But with chances far and wide, it was Chelsea who were afforded the best chance to break the deadlock after Maguire prevented Azpilicueta from finding a header off Ben Chilwell's free-kick.

Replays from the incident showed the United captain put his opponent in a headlock, wrestling the Spaniard to the ground.

Astonishingly, VAR refused to intervene in what could have been a clear penalty allowed play to continue.

The decision left a number of Chelsea fans angry including Hasselbaink who claimed it was "100% a penalty."

"It’s 100% (a penalty) because what is Maguire doing? If you see it Maguire is just strangling Cesar Azpilicueta! He stops him from jumping, he’s putting his weight on his shoulders," Metro UK quoted Hasselbaink.

However, ex-Man United star Gary Neville claimed the decision was less clear, but was quick to admit it looked worse than Thiago Silva's trip on Marcus Rashford that was reviewed by VAR.

The victory also saw the Reds bounce back to winning ways having dropped points in their Merseyside Derby against Everton at the Goodison Park last weekend.

They also lost one of their key players Virgil van Dijk to a long injury lay off and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
