Nigerians react to Omotola's tweet about victims of Lekki shooting

- Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has sparked social media outrage over a recent tweet

- The Nollywood actress asked that families of Lekki shooting should speak up if there were any deaths recorded

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is currently receiving major backlash on social media after she took to Twitter to share a tweet concerning the tragic Lekki tollgate shooting.

The shocking event which took place on October 20, reportedly claimed lives and left several people injured.

Due to the inconsistency in the number of casualties, the actress in the now-deleted tweet, urged the families of the victims to speak up if they lost loved ones.

She added that even this wasn't the case, people should stop with the sensationalization.

She wrote:

"No lies, No fear. If People died during the Lekki Toll Assault, let their people speak out please and if there were No deaths then enough with the sensationalization because it does not remove from the Crime that happened. Peaceful protesters were attacked and we will like to know why and by whom."

In no time, the post went viral, sparking major outrage on Twitter. Many people resorted to verbally abusing the screen goddess and accused her of being a government influencer.

Following the backlash, Jalade-Ekeinde deleted the post and apologized for any misunderstanding.

She wrote:

"I’m deleting that tweet so it’s not used wrongly. Apologies as it’s been misunderstood. Sorry about the use of “ if” . Please don’t distrust Everyone there are steadfast people . Know them. We move #endimpunityinNigeria #Endpolicebrutality #EndBadGoveranceInNigeria"

Still on celebrity gaffes, Nigerians reality star, Gifty Powers, has taken to social media to apologize to her fans and followers following a post she shared on her Instagram page in which she criticized #EndSARS protests.

The 2017 BBNaija star had mocked the protesters who were now staying at home seeing that things had gone south. She asked why they didn’t go out to keep protesting.
