Zamfara needs SARS operatives, Matawalle declares amid nationwide protests

Despite the nationwide protests against the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, has insisted that the unit was vital to the maintenance of peace in the state.

The Nation reports that while speaking after arrival from a meeting of northern governors in Kaduna, Matawalle urged the federal government to deploy the scrapped operatives to Zamfara.

Legit.ng gathered that he said the commitment and professional contributions and supports of the FSARS of the Nigeria police have helped built the state.

The governor said the unit has helped a lot in bringing down the level of banditry and hooliganism in communities in the state and described the sudden scrapping of the unit as amounting to throwing away the baby along with the dirty water.

Legit.ng recalled that the northern governors meeting, which was attended by about 12 governors and seven deputies, reviewed the ongoing #EndSARS agitations across the country and called for peaceful protests.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some Nigerians in the United Kingdom, on Thursday, October 22, held a peaceful rally to condemn the growing violence surrounding the #EndSARS protests across Nigeria.

It was reported that the Nigerians in their hundreds staged a procession at the Nigerian House in London to call on their compatriots to give peace a chance.

They also called on Nigerians back home to embrace the #March4Nigeria rally presently ongoing across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as other parts of the world.

The group said that there is no other place to call home and as such should not allow ourselves to be used as agents of destruction.
