Wenger turned 71 years on Thursday and among the many people who wished him a happy birthday was Ozil, who was brought to the Emirates by the manager back in 2013.

In a post seen by Legit.ng, the 32-year old shared a lovely message to his former boss, thanking him for believing in his abilities.

"Happy Birthday, Boss! Thanks for all your trust and support you've given me from my 1st until your last day at Arsenal FC. Without a doubt one of the greatest managers in the Premier League history - always respectful, fair & honest. Wishing you all the best!” Ozil wrote.

Despite offering his respect towards Wenger in his message, it was quite easy to read into the subliminal jibes the German international was throwing at the club’s current hierarchy.

At the moment, Ozil’s future at Arsenal is all but none existent despite his huge wages.

His contract expires in eight months although current boss Mikel Arteta failed to include him in the 25-man squad to compete in the Premier League this season.

Barely 24 hours ago, Ozil took to social media to lament that “loyalty was hard to come by” while calling out the club for the manner in which he was being treated.

Where it went wrong for Ozil

There are many theories to why Ozil fell out of favor with the North London club despite his immense talent, and his troubles can be pin-pointed to back in December 2019.

At the time, Ozil took to his Instagram to thoroughly condemn the treatment of the Uighur population in the north-western region of Xinjiang, where millions are reportedly being held in detention camps.

Ozil’s criticism came with a hefty price as Arsenal’s subsequent Premier League game against Manchester City was removed from China’s state broadcaster CCTV the following weekend.

In a swift reaction, Arsenal distanced itself from Ozil’s comments in a move which was seen as one to contain the damage in a country where the North London club enjoys several investments.

In his latest statement on his Arsenal situation, Ozil maintained he would continue to champion for human rights.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Arsenal got their Europa League campaign off to a winning note following their 2-1 victory over Rapid Wien.

The North Londoners went into the game on the back of their slim defeat to Manchester City in their last Premier League outing last weekend.

Mikel Arteta's men however pushed the defeat back as they went away from home to claim maximum points as they aim for their first European title.

David Luiz and Pierre-Emerich Aubameyang scored the two goals that handed the Gunners the victory.
