Those attached to Government Houses, the president of the Senate Ahmed Lawan, and the House of Representatives speaker Femi Gbajabiamila are however not affected by this directive.

Legit.ng notes that the decision was announced barely five months after IGP withdrew the policemen escorting popular businessman Emeka Okonkwo over alleged abuse of privilege.

Part of the directive addressed to all zonal assistant inspector general and all state commissioners of police read:

“Any protect personnel found escorting or guarding any VIP with or without a firearm is deemed to be deployed by the commander and the commander will be sanctioned.”

Meanwhile, to curb and possibly end the spate of violence triggered by thugs across the nation, IGP Adamu on Tuesday, October 20, ordered the deployment of anti-riot officers throughout the country.

The primary objective of the unit, according to IGP Adamu, is to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians and secure critical national infrastructure across the country.
