Petr Cech: Goalkeeper Included in Chelsea’s 25-man EPL squad

Petr Cech has returned to the Chelsea squad after club manager Frank Lampard named the 38-year-old goalkeeper in the squad that that will represent the Blues in this season’s Premier League.

The goalkeeper has been called out of retirement and is now part of Chelsea’s 25-man squad as he is branded "emergency goalkeeper cover" despite his retirement from football in 2019.

Cech joined the club’s coaching staff last year and he was employed as a technical and performance advisor after, but he has been training with the club.

He becomes the fourth goalkeeper on the club’s roster as he joins joining Kepa Arrizabalaga, Edouard Mendy and Willy Caballero.

However the Stamford Bridge club claim that the inclusion of the Czech number one was a precautionary one due to the effect of the coronavirus.

"Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover," a statement on Chelsea's website read.

"This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player."

And Chelsea welcome Sevilla to Stamford Bridge for their Champions League opener against Europa League champions Sevilla.

The Blues will hope to get their quest to win the European championship off to a winning start after poor outings in the previous editions.

Frank Lampard's men failed to claim maximum points in their Premier League meeting against Southampton last weekend despite taking the lead a couple of times.

Both teams ended up sharing the spoils at the end of the game.

And Legit.ng earlier reported that Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly planning to be a part of the new FIFA initiative.

Both clubs might be thinking of joining other top European outfits for the European Premier League scheduled to kick off in 2022.

The world football governing body already has about $6 billion (£4.6 billion) fund to start up the project two years from now.
