The leadership crisis in the Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued unabated as two major factions are embroiled in an endless legal battle.
A faction of the party led by Senator Kabiru Marafa has said it would go to Supreme Court for the interpretation of a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Sokoto regarding the party's state congresses.
The Guardian reported that the state publicity secretary of the faction, Bello Bakyasuwa, stated this at a news conference in Gusau on Monday, October 19.
The appeal court had on Thursday, October 15, affirmed the congresses that produced the party executives led by Alhaji Lawal Liman.
The court set aside an earlier judgement by a Zamfara state high court which nullified the congresses.
Bakyasuwa said the Marafa-led faction is not satisfied with the ruling of the appellate court. He also claimed that the ruling does not indicate that the party leadership should be handed over to the other faction led by former governor Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari.
He equally accused the national leadership of the party of bias in resolving the party’s crisis in the northern state.
To restore peace in the party chapter, Bakyasuwa appealed to the APC caretaker committee led by the governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, to initiate appropriate measures.
He said that their faction was only after justice and fairness.
In another report, a chieftain of the APC, Ahmed Suleiman Wambai, has claimed that his party spent billions of naira to ensure that it won the governorship elections in Imo, Kwara, Gombe, Zamfara, and Benue state.
Wambai, who is the immediate past national vice chairman, north-central of the party made the disclosure in an interview with The Sun newspapers.
He said the former chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole gave billions of naira to governorship candidates in some states to enable the party to emerge victorious in the polls.
