The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee has been issued a 14-day ultimatum to convene a national convention by December.
In a report by TVC News, the directive was given by a group under the auspices of ‘Concerned All Progressives Congress APC Members’.
The group also kicked against any reported plans to extend the tenure of the caretaker committee headed by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state.
It would be recalled that the Buni-led committee was inaugurated on June 25, at an emergency meeting of the party's NEC.
The committee was tasked with reconciling warring tendencies in the party and convene an elective national convention within a six-month period.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that following criticisms from different quarters, the presidency defended President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to have held the APC national executive council meeting inside the Council Chamber of the State House.
This was disclosed by Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president, in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle on Sunday, June 28. Read more:
In a related development, the Edo state chapter of the APC called on the national caretaker committee of the party headed by Buni, to uphold the suspension of the former national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
The party, in a statement on Friday, October 15, and signed by its secretary, Ose Udiamen Edekere, said that the decision was part of the communique issued at the end of its State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on September 24.
The meeting reviewed the outcome of the gubernatorial election held in the state on September 19, adding that major factors that led to the abysmal failure of the party to retain its prime position were discussed.
