Court convicts NNPC staff Nuhu Aliyu for N1.8m fraud in Kaduna

- A staff of the NNPC, Nuhu Aliyu, has been convicted in Kaduna state

- Aliyu was found guilty of defrauding the NNPC to the tune of N1.8 million in 2017

- The NNPC staff was sentenced to pay N100,000 fine to the federal government or face a 10 years jail term while EFCC was asked to recover the crime proceeds from him

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, October 15, secured another conviction against Nuhu Aliyu, a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC)/Nigerian Pipeline and Storage Company Ltd (NPSC).

According to a statement on the anti-graft agency's Facebook page on Friday, October 16, Aliyu was convicted by Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna state high court, Kaduna for fraud.

Legit.ng gathers Aliyu defrauded the NNPC to the tune of N1.8 million in 2017.

He was prosecuted by the Kaduna office of the EFCC on an amended one-count charge of criminal breach of trust and abuse of office to which he pleaded guilty.

After pleading guilty, Aliyu was convicted and sentenced by the judge to pay the sum of N100,000 to the federal government or risk a 10 years jail term.

The EFCC was also ordered by the court to recover the proceeds of the crime from the convict.

In another report, the Gombe zonal office of the EFCC has arrested a Christ Apostolic Church pastor identified as Gbenga Moses Adesoju for fraud.

Pastor Adesoju was arrested for conspiring with one Adebayo Olawale of No. 25 Fashina Road, Ile-Ife, Osun state, to defraud one Umar Hayatu of Lafiya quarters, Dukku local government area of Gombe state to the tune of N12.7 million.

The anti-graft agency posted photos of the suspects on its official Twitter handle, @officialEFCC, on Saturday, September 3.

Similarly, a Borno state high court has sentenced one Allen Abel to a cumulative term of 125 years in prison over a fake school feeding contract.

Abel and three other suspects were accused of fraudulently obtaining food items from Lele Foresight Construction Company valued at N12, 879,800.00.

The EFCC disclosed that the four suspects had pretended to execute a school feeding contract for the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHDSD).
