Barcelona have been hit by serious financial crisis but players have rejected the club’s idea to cut their salaries including, team captain Lionel Messi.

Due to the effect of the pandemic, the Catalan club was among other teams around the world to cut staff wages.

Latest idea to further cut their salaries have been rejected by the first team players and according to top radio station RAC1, the players rejected the proposal for them to receive pay cuts.

It was gathered that the club is proposing up to a 30 percent cut from each player’s earnings as the players are prepared to send the board a burofax about their decision.

Several outlets claimed the club’s board had hoped the players will accept the new condition, but they disagree.

According to Marca recently, Barcelona's debt rose from €217million in June 2019 to €488million 12 months later.

He said via Dario Sport and cited in Soccer Laduma:

“The reduction is not necessarily for the players, it is possible that there will be mixed formulas for different.
“Contracts can be adapted following sporting criteria, proportionality criteria and sporting circumstances.
“This is an exceptional situation and we have to look for solutions in the club to balance the budget in the best possible way “Avoiding job losses in the future is what we must prioritise.”

Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann is reportedly planning to leave Catalan club Barcelona as he is said to be unhappy with team captain Lionel Messi.

The 29-year-old who is finding life difficult at the club joined the Spanish giants from rivals Atletico Madrid in July 2019 for a staggering transfer fee of €120 million.
