President Muhammdu Buhari has expressed grief over the death of Reverend Tola Oyediran, the first daughter of the late sage and Nigerian politician Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Legit.ng had reported that Oyediran passed away on Friday afternoon, October 16, at the age of 79, throwing into mourning the dynasty of the late western region premier.
With Reverend Oyediran's death, a huge vacuum has been created in the dynasty of the late Nigerian lawyer, leaving Dr Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu as the only surviving child of the late western region leader and politician.
In a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari prayed for the family of the deceased.
He also sent a strong message to the Tokunbo, Awolowo's only surviving daughter, praying that God will give the family the solace to bear the loss.
Part of the statement read:
“President Muhammadu Buhari sends condolences to the family of late Premier of the Western Region and nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo over the passing of Mrs Tola Oyediran, eldest daughter of the sage.
“The President commiserates with friends and associates of Mrs Oyediran, particularly her only surviving sister, Mrs Tokunbo Awolowo, over the sad loss, urging the family to take solace in the investments of the deceased in making life better for others.
Meanwhile, All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, also commiserated with the Awolowo family over the death of the late sage's daughter.
In a statement on Friday, October 16, by his media aide Tunde Rahman, Tinubu described the deceased as a strong woman who will be missed.
"She represented the Awolowo family positively through her excellent moral conduct and shared her father’s welfarist political philosophy."
In a related development, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo also lost his mother to the cold hands of death, a report from Tribune and OyoInsight, a top local newspaper from the state, claimed.
Although no official statement was issued as a check on the governor's social media pages bore no related pronouncement, Legit.ng gathered that Makinde's mum, Mrs Abigail, died on Thursday, October 15.
The Oyo governor's mother died at the age of 81 years, with her demise said to have plunged the entire Makinde's household into mourning.
