Arsenal have reportedly joined fellow Premier League campaigners Manchester United in the race to sign Villarreal and Spanish defender Pau Torres in January 2021.
This latest development is expected to mount serious pressure on Manchester United chiefs who have been looking for ways to sign the 23-year-old.
Solskjaer and his wards have not been doing well this season in the Premier League and the Red Devils chief want to bolster their defense in the new year.
United current form has put Ole Solskjaer under serious pressure and there are reports that Manchester United chiefs are talking with Allegri over taking over.
Since Allegri was sacked at Juventus despite winning the League last two seasons, the Italian is yet to get another job.
Arsenal on the other hand signed Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille during the transfer window.
According to the report on Daily Star citing Todofichajes, Arsenal could beat the Red Devils to another defensive signing when the transfer window reopens.
Villarreal reportedly value Torres at around £35 million and would be willing to listen to offers for him during the new year.
Torres started his career with Villarreal youth team before making it to the main team in 2017 and has has played 41 games so far netting two goals.
He has also played five games for the Spanish national team so far scoring one goal.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Mikel Arteta who is the manager of Premier League side Arsenal is reportedly saving money for the Gunners over his decision not to include Mesut Ozil in his team so far this season.
The last time Mesut Ozil played a competitive match for Arsenal was in March this year before football was put on hold by the authorities in charge of the game.
But since the resumption of football in England and many parts of the world, Mesut Ozil is still being overlooked by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta despite being the highest paid at the Emirates.
Things have turned sour for Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this term as the World Cup winner has also been omitted from the Europa League squad.
