Mesut Ozil may not feature for Arsenal in the current Premier League season as the club look set to submit the final 25-man squad for the 2020-21 campaign, Daily Mail.

The German midfielder last played for Mikel Arteta's side back in February and has not kicked the ball ever since.

The 31-year-old and Sokratis did also not make the Gunners' Europa League squad with Arteta explaining that he had to comply with UEFA rules.

Now the final 25-man Premier League team is set to be announced on Tuesday, October 20, and Arteta is having selection problems with his group containing 19 foreign players, two more than they are allowed to register.

The Spanish manager was asked if the former Real Madrid man will be in his squad but he stylishly evaded the question saying:

"He wasn’t the only one who was not in the Europa League squad.
"It is a difficult decision for me to make because to leave players out of the squad, where they know they cannot get involved, is tough.
"I don’t like it at all, but unfortunately the decision has to be made because we have an excess of foreign players."

Arsenal will return to action from the international break with a visit to Manchester City and it is understood that the manager has told Ozil and Sokratis they only have a few weeks to prove their worth.

Arteta added:

"They have to respect that decision, try to train the best possible way, help the team as best they can and see what happens."

Arsenal without Ozil's contribution won the FA Cup in style last season, beating the likes of Man City and Chelsea to clinch the prestigious trophy.

The Gunners have also started the new Premier League season on a bright note winning three out their four opening games.
