Policeman dismissed for stealing phone and money belonging to job applicant

- A police officer lost his job after he was dragged to court for stealing from a job applicant

- The 24-year-old ex-police officer appeared before Magistrate Modupe Awodele in Osogbo, Osun state

- The suspect reportedly stole a bag which had phone and money belonging to one Bolaji Ajiboye, who was an applicant for police job

A 24-year-old police officer has been dismissed for stealing a phone and some cash belonging to a job applicant identified as Bolaji Ajiboye.

Following his dismissal, the suspect appeared before Osun state magistrate court in Osogbo, Tori.ng reports.

Police prosecutor John Idoko said the defendant committed the offence on August 24, 2020, at about 8:30pm at Osun state command headquarters of Nigeria Police Force in Osogbo.

According to Idoko, the defendant stole a bag belonging to the applicant where he kept a Techno Camon 12 mobile phone and N25,000. The phone is worth N58,000.

After pleading not guilty, the defendant was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum by the magistrate, Modupe Awodele.

The matter has been adjourned till November 9 for hearing.

In similar news, 10 senior officers have been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) while nine others were demoted over alleged misconduct.

The dismissal and demotion were approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) in a statement signed by the PSC head of press and public relations, Ikechukwu Ani.

According to the body, severe punishment was also approved for eight officers for professional misconduct while light reprimand was also approved for 10 officers.
