President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the re-election of Rotimi Akeredolu as the governor of Ondo state.

While rejoicing with the governor, the Nigerian leader advised him to be humble and magnanimous in victory.

This was contained in a statement released on Sunday, October 11, by the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.

He also urged Governor Akeredolu to serve the people of Ondo state even better than he did in the first term.

Meanwhile, Yiaga Africa, a non-profit organisation and election watchdog has thrown its weight behind the outcome of the just concluded governorship election in Ondo state.

The group made its stand known during a press briefing at Bliss World Hotel, Ijapo, Akure, on Sunday, October 11, by Samson Otodo, the organisation’s executive director, and other senior officials.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng, Yiaga backed the election result announced by INEC which declared the APC flagbearer, Governor Akeredolu, as the winner.

The APC candidate polled 292,830 to defeat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 195,791.

Professor Idowu Olayinka, the vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan who served as the returning officer made the official declaration.

Similarly, the APC has commended INEC and security agencies for conducting a "peaceful governorship election" in Ondo state.

The commendation was given by Comrade Mustapha Saliu, Secretary of the APC’s National Campaign Council for Ondo 2020.
