COVID-19: Lagos tops list of states, records rising cases

- Lagos is back on top of the list of high-risk states for coronavirus

- The former capital of Nigeria for weeks came behind some states in NCDC's daily reports

- But on Sunday, October 11, the number of cases in the state (113) rose again

Lagos state took its place as the highest among high-risk states for the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, October 11, with a rise in the number of new cases.

The former capital of Nigeria, with 113 cases, came above states like Kaduna, Osun and Ondo according to the report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

As at Sunday night, the NCDC announced on its Twitter page that there are 60,266 confirmed cases, 51,735 recoveries and 1,115 deaths from the virus.

Among the 12 states across the country that recorded new infections, only Lagos had a three-digit figure.

The states and their number of new cases are as follows: Lagos-113, Kaduna-21, Osun-8, Ondo-5, Oyo-5, Ogun-3, Bayelsa-2, Taraba-2, Edo-1, FCT-1, Katsina-1 and Plateau-1.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the NCDC had warned that the non-compliance to COVID-19 health guidelines could spike the second wave in Adamawa and other states in the country.

Fahad Mohammed, the technical adviser in the implementation of NCDC’s action plan gave the warning in Adamawa state.

He sounded the warning during the sensitisation of officials of the Nigerian police and other paramilitary agencies in Yola.

Mohammed disclosed that the health agency was concerned about the low testing for COVID-19 in Adamawa and other states. He pointed out that there are some local government areas in Adamawa state where testing has never taken place.

His words:

“There is a serious concern, (though we don’t pray and God forbid) that there is likely to be even more devastating second wave of coronavirus in Adamawa and other states due to the non-compliance to COVID-19 health guidelines and people declining tests."
