Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has set his eyes on winning Africa's footballer of the year award someday soon.

The 21-year-old recently completed a five-year move to Serie A giants Napoli in a deal valued around €80 million from Lille.

He made his debut in their 2-0 win over Parma and he was instrumental to the two goals scored despite featuring for less than 30 minutes of the game.

The forward, who was excused from the Super Eagles squad for this month's friendly games against Algeria and Tunisia told Napoli TV that:

“My dream is to become the African Footballer of the Year. “I still have a long way to go but I think I'm working towards that direction and I think I am on the right path.
“As a man, it won't be easy but I think having my own family will be a dream come true for me. I still have a long way to go so I'm not thinking about that now.
“Football is the only thing on my mind right now, I just want to keep focusing and of course, with my new club a lot is expected of me.”

Osimhen also recounted how he rose to fame despite growing up in a humble background in Lagos, Nigeria. He added:

“If someone had told me three years ago that I would have played in one of the most important teams in the world, I wouldn’t have believed them.

“I had a difficult time at Wolfsburg, I was rejected by two Belgian teams and then I was picked up by Charleroi. My life was incredibly stressful at the time.
"About three years ago, if someone had told me I would have signed for Napoli, I would have replied that it would be impossible.
“Now, I believe nothing is impossible. I have continued to work and do my thing and I’m here. It’s a dream come true and I’m grateful for that."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian star Victor Osimhen made his debut for Napoli after making a huge money switch from Lille to the Serie A side.

Although he failed to find the back of the net, his introduction into the game in the 61st minute change the direction of the game for The Parthenopeans.

It took Gennaro Gattuso's men just two minutes after the 21-year-old came on for Diego Demme before finding the back of the net.
