The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo governorship election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede has won his polling unit.
Jegede polled 220 votes to defeat Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All progressives Congress (APC) who scored 60 and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP)'s Agboola Ajayi who polled seven votes.
He voted at Unit 009, Ward 2, Akure local government area located inside Sacred Heart Primary School, Cathedral area of the state capital.
Similarly, the Ajayi won the election in his polling unit. He voted at Polling Unit 004, Ward 2 in Kiribo, Ese-Odo local government area of the state.
At his polling unit, he garnered 395 votes while the PDP had five votes and the ruling APC had 13 votes.
Although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the names of 17 political parties on the ballot papers, only the three are major contenders.
Meanwhile, a man was stabbed by unknown hoodlums at a polling unit in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
The victim whose name is yet to be disclosed was found bleeding on the floor a few metres away from where he was supposed to cast his vote.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations, Lanre Bankole, said the victim is now stable, adding that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the attack.
Legit.ng had earlier reported that there was sporadic shooting at Pollíng Unit 11, Edo Lodge in Oke Ijebu, Akure, the Ondo state capital when voting commenced.
Ondo state police command spokesman, Tee-Lee Ikoro confirmed the incident and said mobile police operatives have been deployed to the scene.
On Twitter, the PDP claimed the shooting was from thugs loyal to the APC, adding that the plan was to scare eligible voters away from the polling unit.
In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force earlier arrested one of its officers in Owo local government area of Ondo state, for violating an order for all orderlies to be withdrawn from their principals ahead of the election.
The officer, whose identity is yet to be known, reportedly escorted a former two-time House of Representatives’ member, Alaba Lad-Ojomo, to Ijebu polling unit 4, Ward 5, in the town.
