It was fight to finish at the prestigious Jacques Lemans Arena Die Zeit in St. Veit, Austria as African champions Algeria defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly.
Nigeria returned to international action since their 4-2 home win against Lesotho in November 2019 and Gernot Rohr’s side, having won their first two games in Group L, lead the group with six points.
The game is part of two warm-up matches for the Eagles ahead of their AFCON 2022 qualifiers against Sierra Leone in November.

Nigeria played the game against Algeria without regular players including Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo and it showed.
The Desert Foxed looked the better side in all departments with many of the Nigerian stars struggling.
The only goal of the game came in the 6th minute after Ramy Bensebaini pounced on a rebound off a header from a corner kick to slot home. 1-0 Algeria.
Desperate in search for an equalizer, Alex Iwobi attempted a shot from outside the area but it went off target.
There was nothing too much about the first 45 minutes as both sides contained themselves all through the half.
Algeria returned from the tunnel desperate for another goal and they kept searching and the Eagles looking not organised.
Riyad Mahrez was so different putting all the pressure on the Nigerian defence all through the game. However, that was how it ended: Nigeria 0-1 Algeria.
The Super Eagles will play the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Tuesday, October 13 for their second friendly during the international friendly.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Gernot Rohr who has made it clear that he was not surprised with the decision of Arsenal star, Bukayo Saka, not to play for Nigeria.
Bukayo Saka was recently called to the England national team ahead of their coming games this month in which the Arsenal forward expressed happiness to the call.
