Nigerian court sentences convicted serial killer, Gracious David-West to death

A suspect, Gracious David-West, who was charged to court over the deaths of several women in Rivers state has been sentenced to death.

A Rivers State High Court presided over by Justice Adolphus Enebeli on Friday, October 9, sentenced David-West to death by hanging, Leadership reported.

The suspect was found guilty of killing 11 young women as well as the attempted murder of one Benita Etims in hotels in Rivers state in 2019.

The court ruled that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that David-West was the killer of the women.

In the video shared by the police, the suspect confessed to the killings of several women. He said he killed his last victim in a hotel room.

Gracious David-West was also reported to have confessed to the killing of 15 women across seven states.

According to the police, the suspect said the killings occurred in Abia, Edo, Ibadan in Oyo, Owerri in Imo, Ikeja in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

In another crime-related report, a Kano-based woman accused of killing her two children over squabbles with her husband’s second wife has claimed she was hallucinating when the incident occurred.

The suspect, Hauwa’u Habibu was arrested shortly after the alleged attack with a machete and pestle occurred on Saturday, October 3, The Nation reported.

She, however, claimed that she was not in the right frame of mind when the alleged attack on the six and three-year-old kids happened.
