Reactions have continued to greet the removal of former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose's cap during a grand finale of the governorship rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state on Wednesday, October 7.
Vanguard reports that the Ogun state chapter of the PDP condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to book.
Legit.ng gathered that the state PDP chairman, Sikirulahi Ogundele, in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, in Abeokuta, the state capital, described the attack as the height of irresponsibility, shenanigans and politically motivated.
“We totally condemn in all ramifications, this barbaric act devoid of democratic norms and values on the former governor and highly respected leader within the southwest caucus of PDP.”
Speaking on behalf of the leadership of the party within the southwest region, Ogundele apologised to Fayose for the ugly conduct of some hoodlums against him.
The state chairman added:
“We seriously want the National Working Committee of PDP, to urgently set up a high-powered disciplinary committee to investigate the unfortunate incident and ensure that those behind such unholy acts are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to those with such motive.
“PDP is a political party known for its high discipline of members, decency and respect for the rule of law which must be cherished at all times."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Ondo state government said thugs imported into the state were likely responsible for the attack on Fayose at a rally of the PDP in Ondo town.
It was reported that the Ondo commissioner for information and orientation, Donald Ojogo, said hoodlums imported from outside are currently spread across the state ahead of the governorship election.
He noted that the assault on Fayose has confirmed the state government's suspicion that thugs were being imported into Ondo.
