Memphis Depay who is the captain of French giants Lyon has explained that he was on the verge of joining Barcelona before the move collapsed on the final day of transfer.
The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona when Ronald Koeman was appointed as new coach replacing sacked Setien.
Koeman was said to have told Barcelona chiefs to bring Memphis Depay to the Camp Nou, but the Catalans were unable to meet up with Lyon's asking price for the Dutchman.
Barcelona were actually planning to send Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United on loan so as for them to raise money for the transfer of Depay, but the Frenchman refused move to England.
''Yes, it was pretty close. We don't have to go into all the details, but indeed we were nearly done.
''Unfortunately, certain rules stopped it. I believe that everything in my life happens for a reason. If it has to happen, it will happen,''
Depay in his fourth year at Lyon has established himself as one of the best forwards in the world scoring 58 goals in 144 games so far.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are currently occupying fifth position on the Spanish La Liga table with seven points after three games played.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Didier Deschamps who is the handler of the French national football senior team has explained that Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann is currently not in good mood at the Nou Camp.
This is as a result of the new Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman using the Frenchman to play from the wings this term in the Spanish La Liga.
During Barcelona's Spanish La Liga draw with Sevilla on Sunday, October 4, Antoine Griezmann was used on the right hand side of the attack with Philippe Coutinho and Fati used behind Messi.
According to the report on Daily Mail, Deschamps who won the World Cup with Griezmann explained that Koeman is not using the player in his best position.
