With less than three days to the Ondo state governorship election, Agboola Ajayi, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate has bragged that he would defeat Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer Eyitayo Jegede at the poll.
The Ondo state deputy governor revealed this while speaking at the round off of his campaign tour at Owo, in Owo local government area of the state, The Nation reports.
Ajayi stated that he is confident of defeating other gubernatorial candidates in the election, adding that residents will be protected with adequate security from harassment.
The Ondo deputy governor assured warned his supporters not to take arms against anybody but to vote.
“We are here to campaign. We are not here to fight anybody. Please, don’t allow anybody to provoke you. Vote and protect your votes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the former Ondo state governor on his part said it was sad that in the last few weeks due five peoples died due to political violence.
He went on to note that as a result of this electorates were no longer attending political rallies.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that there was a mild drama in Ondo state on Tuesday, October 6, between Governor Akeredolu and his deputy during the signing of a peace accord to ensure a violence-free election.
At the end of the event, Akeredolu declined a request by the master of ceremonies for him to either shake hands, touch elbows, or embrace his ZLP opponent, Ajayi.
The governor declined and simply waved at Ajayi but they both exchanged pleasantries with the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, by touching his elbow as requested by the MC.
In a related development, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed certainty that the ruling party will win the Ondo governorship election.
Oshiomhole on Tuesday, October 6, boasted that although the Edo gubernatorial poll is over, that of Ondo will be favourable to the APC.
