Lionel Messi might be forced to leave Barcelona six months before the expiration of his current deal with Barcelona if they press ahead with another round of staff pay cuts.
The Catalans are reportedly planning to force another round of pay cuts on their staff having already cut their salaries by 70 percent earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Messi almost parted ways with the Blaugrana owing to numerous activities considered unfavourable to the players.
The Argentine forward was also unsatisfied with the club's boss over their failure to be highly competitive in the Champions League in recent times.
According to the Mirror Messi felt disappointed with the Nou Camp outfit over their approach they employed in the previous deduction.
Despite managing to keep their captain beyond this summer due to a clause in his deal, however, Marca reports that Messi may have been handed another option to leave early.
Sources close to the club reveal Barca want to implement more pay cuts, with each department at the club now asked to vote for a representative to discuss terms on their behalf.
The club has given 15 days for a spokesperson to be named and negotiations are expected to last around a month.
Marca then claim that Barcelona staff are protected by law based on article 41 of the Workers’ Statute - a clause that professional athletes have used previously to terminate their own contract.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Sergino Dest made his debut for Barcelona in their 1-1 draw against Europa League reigning champions Sevilla at the Nou Camp last weekend.
Luuk de Jong and Philippe Coutinho both scored the goals that helped their respective clubs share the spoils in the early minutes of the first half.
The 19-year-old was introduced into the game in the 75th minute after coming on for injured Jordi Alba, and he immediately made an impact.
