Nigerian man and Indian lover nabbed for posing as British citizens to defraud people

A Nigerian man identified as Augustine Udekwe has been arrested with his Indian girlfriend, Lalhmunsiyami, for duping people on the pretext of sending them expensive gifts.

The suspects, who were living together as lovers, were arrest by the cyber cell police in Bhopal, India, on Tuesday, October 6, Within Nigeria reports.

According to the cyber cell police, the suspects pretended to be British citizens in order to defraud their victims.

The police said the suspects operated their criminal enterprise by befriending women and men on social media after thorough research. They would then chat with the victims on WhatsApp after taking their contacts.

Udekwe has been living in India since 2015, and his visa is said to have expired. He and his girlfriend were arrested after a woman filed a complaint with the police over their criminal activities.

They were arrested by the police from Mahavir Inclave Part-2 Uttam Nagar in Delhi.

In other news, the trial of Raymond Igbalode aka Hushpuppi has been suspended till 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic the world is currently battling with.

The trial was earlier scheduled for October 13, after the suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

According to the orders of a district judge in California, Otis Wright, the trial will continue on May 4, 2021.

Recall that Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and extradited to the United States, where he is being tried for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracies, international money laundering, and engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity.
