- Deadline Day in 2020 summer transfer window was full of drama as some big deals pulled through
- However no fewer than nine possible player transfers failed to happen
- Ousmane Dembele, Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia all failed in their bid to leave their present clubs
With the transfer window now closed, Barcelona failed in a bid to sign three players, while Tottenham’s Jose Mourinho could also not get the player he wanted as it never happened.
Barcelona did everything possible to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City, but the Premier League club failed to reduce their asking price of €20million for the player despite his contract ending this season.
Ronald Koeman hinted over the weekend that the club is on the verge of bringing the player back to the Camp Nou with Garcia himself interested in returning.
However, both clubs failed to agree on a fee and the player has to now wait to move in January, or as a free agent when his contract expires.
The Catalan giants also tried doing business with Manchester United which would see Ousmane Dembele move to the Old Trafford side in their bid to raise funds to purchase Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay.
The Red Devils only considered a loan deal for Dembele as they rejected the inclusion of a purchase in the contract made available.
Consequently, Dembele could not move which automatically renders transfer of Garcia or Depay impossible.
A last minute effort also occurred a Chelsea football club as they tried to free up their wage bill.
However their hopes were dashed when deals for Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori were reportedly rejected.
Rudiger was chased by Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur and was also linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, but the German defender opted to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Tomori almost sealed a move to West Ham after everything had been agreed by both clubs, but the player reportedly changed his mind 10 minutes before closure of the window.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that transfer deadline deals were completed among several clubs in Europe as the window officially closed on October 5, 2020.
The biggest deal landed on the last day was Thomas Partey's £45million move from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal.
The Ghanaian midfielder has been linked with the Gunners for several months but the north London club managed to get the deal over the line at the eleventh hour.
