Presidency cautions Nigerians saying the nation will break up

- The presidency has faulted Nigerians who have been making comments about the looming break up of the nation

The presidency has cautioned Nigerians who have been saying President Muhammadu Buhari needs to do one thing or another to prevent the break up of the nation.

Garba Shehu, one of the spokespersons to the president in a statement on Sunday, October 4, described such comments as unpatriotic outbursts.

He said the Buhari administration would not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time the nation is dealing with security challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The presidential aide said:

"Repeat: this administration will not take any decision against the interests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the President’s first responsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially in this hour of health crisis."

Shehu emphasised that as an elected leader, Buhari will continue to seek constitutional processes in finding solutions to the challenges facing the country.

Legit.ng recalls that some Nigerians and prominent groups have been warning that the nation could break up if it is not restructured.

The latest individual to raise this concern is the lead pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye who warned the federal government that Nigeria may break up if governance is not restructured to suit the unique needs of Nigerians.

Adeboye gave the warning on Saturday, October 3, at a symposium to mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence Day celebration, according to The Cable.

He told his audience that the federal government must find a lasting solution to secession agitations and its economic challenges.
