Alleged forgery: Court dismisses suit against Ahmed Ndakene

- An Abuja court has ruled against a suit seeking to sack an APC Reps member, Ahmed Ndakene on the grounds of a forged certificate

- Mahmud Babako of the PDP was the one who filed the suit against the lawmaker

- The court ruled that a police investigation found no grounds for certificate forgery on the part of Ndakene

A case of certificate forgery filed against Ahmed Ndakene, a member of the House of Representatives has been dismissed by an Abuja area court.

The court in a judgment on Friday, October 2, ruled that Ndakene certificates were in order. The case was instituted against the lawmaker by a candidate of the PDP Mahmud Babako.

Babako had alleged that Ndakene’s election into the House of Representatives was faulty on the grounds that he used a forged certificate, Premium Times reported.

However, Justice Ismail Jibril dismissed Babako's suit based on the police report which ascertained the authenticity of the credentials used by the lawmaker for the election.

The judge said the report indicated that the INEC, WAEC and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria confirmed the authenticity of the result.

He stated the investigation by the police failed to prove any case of forgery by Ndakene.

In other news, the PDP has recorded a victory in Bayelsa state as the Court of Appeal affirmed Douye Diri as the state's governor.

Premium Times reported that the court set aside a ruling of the Bayelsa state governorship election petition tribunal which nullified the election of Diri as the validly elected governor.

According to the report, in a majority judgment delivered in Abuja on Friday, October 2, the court dismissed the petition filed by the advanced Nigeria Democratic Party on the ground that it was statute-barred.
