Ex-pension boss under EFCC probe vows to recover $10bn for FG in 30 days

- Former pension boss, Abdulrasheed Maina, said he is ready to help the FG recover $10 billion in 30 days

- Maina was said to have stated this from his hospital bed as he recovers from surgery

- The ex-pension boss said the fund if recovered will help the government address some of the key challenges facing it

Malam Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, has reportedly expressed readiness to help the federal government to recover $10 billion within a month if re-appointed.

Leadership newspaper reported that Maina made the statement from his hospital bed as he recovers from surgery.

The former pension boss was reported to have said this in commemoration of Nigeria's 60th Independence Anniversary.

He said the $10 billion if recovered, could help fix infrastructure deficits, fuel subsidy and put to rest the agitations over the hike in electricity tariff.

Aliyu Musa, a media aide to Maina, said the former pension boss further indicated that he can only make the recovery of the said funds directly to President Buhari to avoid being looted.

According to the statement, Maina claimed he has assisted successive administrations, especially that of former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari, to recover funds.

He claimed to have recovered N1.6trillion for the Jonathan administration and N1.3trillion for the Buhari administration.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Maina was recently released from Kuje Correctional Centre nine months after his detention.

Maina, who was arraigned before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his son, had been in detention since October 2019.

The EFCC had arraigned Maina and his son over charges bordering on money laundering and false declaration of assets.
