Timo Werner’s first half goal against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup fourth-round was cancelled by an Erik Lamela strike and the game headed straight into penalty shootout.

The new Chelsea signing reportedly turned down a chance to take a spot kick during the shootout as the Blues crashed out of the competition 5-4 after the game went into penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Werner impressed in the game but was down with a cramp at the latter stages of the match and reports by ESPN journalist James Olley claim Werner rejected a chance to take a spot kick.

The German was full of confidence after his goal, but went down with cramp in the final stages of the tie, which went straight to penalties after 90 minutes.

"Lampard goes to Werner, who is getting treatment for cramp, to ask if he wants to/can take a penalty. He says no," James Olley tweeted.

"You work on penalties and plan but it's difficult you know.

"Timo had cramp towards the end of the game and probably would have taken one. So we had to adjust around that."

A mild drama occurred during the game when Eric Dier raced down the tunnel to use the toilet facility with his side trailing 1-0 at that moment.

Furious Jose Mourinho was seen as he stormed down the area to fetch the player with Timo Werner’s lone goal for Chelsea set to knock them out of the competition.

Dier was handed the Man of the Match award as he inspired his team to victory in the game.

Meanwhile Legit.ng earlier reported that Inter Milan have reportedly concluded plans to make a move for Chelsea midfielder, N'golo Kante before this transfer window closes.

The Italian League giants will offer the Blues two of their key players; Milan Skriniar and Marcelo Brozovic in a swap deal for the Frenchman.

Kante played for Antonio Conte during his two-year reign at Stamford Bridge - winning one Premier League and a FA Cup title in the process.
