- Lionel Messi has appealed to Barcelona and the fans that they put the past behind them
- The club captain has been outspoken since he demanded his departure at the Camp Nou
- Messi opened his account for Barcelona in their 4-0 thrashing of Villarreal last weekend
Lionel Messi has openly come out to admit that he made mistakes but it was in the best interest of his darling club, Barcelona.
The 33-year-old submitted a transfer request in the summer after having a spat with the club's hierarchy but later rescinded his decision to leave the Camp Nou.
In the build-up to Barca's first La Liga game against Villarreal last weekend, the Argentine also lashed the club for letting his best friend leave the club to rivals, Atletico Madrid.
But the six-time Ballon d'Or winner wants everything that has happened to be swept under the carpet admitting he was at fault.
Messi told Spanish news media outlet Sport:
"After so many disagreements, I would like to put an end to it.
"All Barça fans must unite and assume that the best is yet to come.
"I take responsibility for my mistakes, if there were any - they were only to make a better and stronger Barça.
"Adding passion and enthusiasm will be the only way to achieve the objectives - always united and rowing in the same direction."
The Barcelona captain also addressed the fans:
"If fans were bothered by anything I said or did, I did it thinking about the best for the club."
Messi was instrumental to Barca's 4-0 thrashing of Villarreal at the Camp Nou as he scored from the spot-kick and had his shot deflected by Pau Torres into his own net.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Luis Suarez has finally explained how his best friend Lionel Messi felt when he heard about his decision to leave Barcelona claiming that the Argentine was surprised.
After spending six years at Barcelona, things fell apart when the club suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Champions League against Bayern Munich.
The loss against Bayern Munich also made the club fire Setien and replace him with Ronald Koeman who has been mandated to bring titles to the Nou Camp.
