Liverpool have confirmed that their summer signing, Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Though not showing symptoms, the Spaniard has been asked to self-isolate in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

The 29-year-old who helped Bayern Munich win the Champions League title last season joined the Reds on a four-year deal this transfer window.

He made his debut when he came on for Jordan Henderson in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea earlier in the season.

"The club has, and will continue to follow, all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time."

Earlier this week, the Premier League organisers confirmed 10 new COVID-19 cases after another round of testing was conducted.

This is the highest number of positive results since the season began a few weeks back.

Liverpool and Arsenal reignite their rivalry on Thursday when they clash in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. Liverpool first-team doctor, Dr Jim Moxon said:
