Insurgency: I’ll be more careful in Borno, says Governor Zulum

- Governor Babagana Zulum has vowed to be cautious in his move to flush out terrorists in Borno

- Zulum made this promise when he was paid a sympathy visit by some National Assembly members

- The governor admitted that the situation of things in the state presently is very critical, especially in the area of security

Days after his convoy was attacked by insurgents in the Baga town of Borno, Governor Babagana Zulum on Tuesday, September 29, revealed how he will implement his drive to fight terrorism in the and restore peace in the state.

A delegation of National Assembly members led by a former governor of the state, Kashim Shettima paid Zulum on Tuesday, September 29, Premium Times reports.

Zulum assured the delegate that he will be more careful in his move to chase out the insurgents from the state.

The governor said:

"I want to assure you that Insha Allah I will abide by some of the advice that you have given to me; we shall be more careful in carrying out our mandates and responsibilities because security is very paramount."

Moreover, during the visit, Governor Zulum admitted that the security situation in the state is still very delicate not only for himself but for all residents.

However, Zulum maintained that his resolve to return Borno to sanity and peace cannot be changed or shaken by recent ugly experiences.

He added:

“The situation, of course, is obnoxious and unlikely to remain unchanged except drastic actions is taken; otherwise the insurgency will take over Maiduguri.”

Zulum noted that this is important because areas like Lake Chad, the Sambisa axis and the Mandara hills need peace most because they provide the entire state with all its agricultural produce.

Earlier, weeks after crying out for being shot at by gunmen on his way to visit Internally Displaced Persons with relief materials, the governor of Borno, Babagana Zulum was attacked again by terrorists near the town of Baga in Borno.

Zulum escaped death after his convoy was ambushed on Friday, September 25, by Jihadist insurgents loyal to the IS-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group.
