History has been made in the aviation industry as the world’s first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft has launched into the skies.
How Africa reports that it took flight on Thursday, September 24, in an airfield in Bedfordshire, England.
The company, ZeroAvia, behind the initiative said that it is fully given to making hydrogen planes available for commercial use within the space of three years.
Val Miftakhov, the company’s CEO, said he hopes these new aircrafts will replace fossil fuel engines when they go commercial.
“What we’re doing is replacing fossil fuel engines with that’s called hydrogen-electric engines. We also have a fueling infrastructure set up that ensures zero emission production of hydrogen itself," he said
The company, however, said that though an aeroplane with such an engine was previously launched, this is the first time a commercial type will be taking a flight.
While commenting on the development, an aviation safety investigator at the Loughborough University, David Gleave, said that it is compulsory that the right infrastructure is available to make the initiative a success

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Celera 500, a bullet-shaped plane was first spotted in 2017 at the Southern California Logistics Airport as the world speculated about its unusual design.
Not much was known about the Celera 500L plane until this year’s summer as it was officially revealed to the world with some very fine picture and its website.
According to the company that created it, an offshoot of Otto Laboratories, the plane will be able to run 16 to 25 miles per fuel gallon, a consumption that is cheaper compared to the 2 or 3 miles a jet aircraft run per for the same fuel.
