Nigeria records 136 new coronavirus cases

As the novel pandemic continues to devastate countries, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has once again announced its daily new cases.

According to the NCDC, 136 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection have been confirmed in the country.

It made this known on its official twitter handle in the late hours of Monday, September 28.

The agency said the new infection takes the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 58,460. This consequently raised the death toll in the country to 1,111 .

The new infections were reported in 12 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In the latest update, Lagos topped the list with 71 cases, Rivers with 23 infections and Plateau trailing behind with 12.

Others include Adamawa and Oyo – 6, Kaduna – 5, Abia and FCT – 3, Katsina and Kwara – 2, Bauchi, Borno, and Edo each having one.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng recalls that the agency said citizens will continue to wear face masks and use hand sanitisers until an approved vaccine for COVID-19 is found.

The NCDC stressed that Nigerians have no choice at the moment than to stick to the hygiene measures including rules on social distancing.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the NCDC's director-general, noted:

“Studies have shown that the correct use of face masks is critical to reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection.
"We encourage people and businesses around the world to rally behind the importance of wearing a mask properly every day until a vaccine that prevents infection is readily accessible to all citizens.”
