Amid calls for the sack of service chiefs, Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo state, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to take firm action against appointed officials in his government not meeting up to public expectations.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Okorocha made the appeal while playing host to members of the Integrity Group made up of the Non-National Working Committee and National Executive Committee members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, September 28.
The senator representing Imo West claimed that certain individuals holding sensitive positions in the cuurent administration were frustrating genuine efforts of the president to deliver dividends of democracy.
Okorocha insisted that until the president weeded out dead woods ordinary Nigerians would not feel the impact of his administration.
“I must say here that what works in most developed countries is hire and fire which brings discipline in the system. There is nothing as bad as persons who occupy government positions and are not working but are kept for sentiment basis. They should be fired to create room for those who can perform. There is nobody on earth who is Alpha and Omega, if you can’t do the job, be sure that someone can do it.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that following the unending issues of insecurity in Nigeria, especially in the northern area, the region's elites have now backed the call on President Buhari to sack the service chiefs.
The northerners are backing earlier calls by elders from the northeast about the service chiefs.
Those who made this call include: Tony Nyiam; human rights activist and former liaison officer to the late President Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai; President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shetima; and another northern activist, Dr. Tanko Yusuf.
