- Israel Adesanya has come under fire for his unsportsmanlike gesture during his win over Costa
- The Last Stylebender successfully defended his middleweight title against the Brazilian
- Fans have tagged the 31-year-old as disrespectful and disgrace for his attitude
Israel Adesanya mocked Paulo Costa after knocking the Brazilian dazed on the ground and fans are not happy about it.
The 31-year-old retained his UFC middleweight belt with ease after breaking down his opponent with several leg strikes and a few punches.
Adesanya successfully defended his middleweight crown courtesy of a second-round stoppage of the Erazer.
The Last Stylebender stood over the Brazilian fighter who was dazed on the ground humping back and forth after he was declared the winner by referee Jason Herzog.
Despite Adesanya's impressive win, mixed martial art fans were not impressed with his unsportsmanlike behaviour to his opponent.
One fan said:
"Am I tripping or did Adesanya hump the air right after he knocked him out."
"Yeah never been a fan of Adesanya's pre and post fight antics but that act on Costa takes the cake.
"Disrespectful and tasteless."
A third said:
"He didn't try to pressure. Costa got into his own head trying to be patient. He should have been Costa instead. Adesanya's fight style is something right in my wheelhouse, but it is disgraceful to mock a downed opponent. His 12 yr old attitude is too much."
After the fight, Adesanya told journalists that Costa underestimated his intelligence inside the cage.
Adesanya explained per MMA Fighting:
"I was so fresh,"
"I looked over and I could see he was sitting down. In the second round, his antics, what they want - they want me to stand there. 'Come, come, why you running, come here.' They just want me to stand there so you can punch me.
"I'm not stupid, dummy. I told you he's dumb. I'm smart. I understand his f**king game."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Israel Adesanya successfully defended his middleweight crown after a second-round stoppage of Paulo Costa.
The Last Style Bender dominated the first round delivering several leg kicks that caused damage on Costa's left leg.
The Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter finished the bout in the second round after catching Costa with a leg kick in the face and floored him with several punches.
