During the apparent confusion and rowdiness, a policeman, Bello Garba, one of Tambuwal's security details, who tried to control the crowd and protect the governor, shot dead a 25-year-old man, Aminu Abdulrahman.

The incident was confirmed by the police command’s spokesman, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, described the sergeant's action as unprofessional.
Sadiq said:
”The Sokoto state police command condemns in its entirety the unwarranted, uncivil and unprofessional conduct of a Police Sergeant on special duty in the state.
”Commissioner of police, Sani Kaoje had ordered the detention and trial of the erring officer and charged the state Criminal Investigation Department to speed up an investigation and come up with objective findings.”
Meanwhile, in a bid to actualise his 2023 presidential ambition, Tambuwal had started making serious consultations with Nigeria's political bigwigs.
Most of the prominent politicians Governor Tambuwal had met to realise his dreams are on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
David Mark, a former Senate president and Theophilus Danjuma, who had served as a minister of defence, were among those the governor spoke with recently.
Moreover, the northern governor had reportedly tried to get Olusegun Obasanjo on his side as he fosters his mission.
