Kepa Arrizabalaga will be in goal for Chelsea when they travel to play at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion in a Premier League fixture at the weekend, Frank Lampard claims.

The Spanish goalkeeper has maintained his number one spot despite his shortcomings since the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

Despite the signing of Edouard Mendy from Rennes, Lampard believes it too early to rush the £22million shot-stopper into action for their trip to West Brom.

Lampard was quoted by The Sun:

"To start tomorrow, it's not going to happen. It's a long week we have rehearsed and we trained trough yesterday. And it's too early to try and put him in (Edouard Mendy) contention for the (West Brom) game."

Chelsea believe the signing of Mendy will solve their goalkeeping problems at the back after Kepa has failed to convince the club's hierarchy in the new season.

Kepa was blamed for Leandro Trossard's goal in the Blues 3-1 win over Brighton on matchday 1 in the English topflight division.

The Spain international also caused the sending off of Andreas Christensen and Sadio Mane's goal during the titanic clash against Liverpool at home.

But Willy Caballero recorded a clean sheet in Chelsea's 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barnsley at Stamford Bridge in midweek, leaving Kepa on the bench.

And with the arrival of Mendy this summer, the 28-year-old will be given a chance to prove his worth and become the club's gloveman.

Chelsea will have no choice but to loan out Kepa to another club before the transfer window closes on October 5 and leave Caballero as the second choice at the Bridge, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Kepa Arrizabalaga's days at Stamford Bridge are numbered following the arrival of Edouard Mendy from Rennes, according to reports.

The Senegalese was unveiled as Chelsea's latest signing with a fee reported to be within the region of £22million.

And Frank Lampard is ready to make him his first choice after Kepa continued from where he stopped in terms of committing errors.
