The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed serious concerns about the current security challenges confronting Nigeria.
Gbajabiamila told listeners at a retreat in Abuja on Thursday, September 24, that Nigeria’s existence is being threatened by insecurity, The Cable reported.
The lawmaker said the insecurity challenges have undermined the public’s confidence in the ability of the government to protect them.
“These internal security challenges threaten the very existence of the Nigerian state because they undermine public faith in the government’s ability to fulfil its fundamental obligation to protect the lives and property of citizens.”
The speaker disclosed that the issue of security has been a priority under his leadership at the House of Representatives.
He said he has visited Katsina, Borno and Zamfara to assess the security situation in those states.
In other news, President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to Kaduna state indigenes to cooperate with government and security agencies to secure peace and harmony in the state.
The president made the appeal on Monday, September 21, during his speech at the virtual Kaduna investment summit 5.0 being aired by Channels TV.
Buhari noted that without peace development cannot take place.
Meanwhile, in continuation of its onslaught on terrorism and other sundry crime, Nigerian troops have recorded another emphatic victory by destroying the hideout of the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state.
Major General John Enenche, the coordinator of the defence media operation, made this known in a statement released on Thursday, September 24.
Enenche said the successful operation led to the destruction of several camps and hideouts.
