Barcelona have reportedly jumped in the chase to land out-of-favour Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger before the transfer window closes next month.
The German star has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard preferring the partnership between Kurt Zouma and Andrea Christensen in the central defence.
Both defenders have featured in the Blues' first two Premier League games since the start of the new season.
The 42-year-old also tested the pair of Fikayo Tomori and Thiago Silva in their Carabao Cup win over Barnsley on Wednesday, September 23.
Lampard will be forced to reshuffle his backline in his next EPL game after his Danish star was handed a straight red card in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.
Though the Catalans will have to battle clubs like Roma and Paris Saint-Germain before securing his signature.
Metro UK quoting German news outlet, Kicker claim Barca are interested in the defender and are in a strong position to sign Ronald Koeman plotting to build a new squad at Camp Nou.
Roma are hoping to re-sign the centre-back, while PSG are also eyeing a season-long loan move for him.
The 27-year-old joined Chelsea in a deal around £27 million in 2017 and was part of their FA Cup and Europa League triumph.
With two more years left on his current deal, the London club would want to recoup a majority of their investment in the Germany international.
Lampard while answering questions from media earlier this week, he hinted the player is surplus to requirement after saying 'he can't have them all'.
"With the centre-halves I can’t have them all in the squad. I keep getting asked about the size of the squad.
"There might be movement, we know that, but nothing is concrete so don’t read too much into those selections at the minute.
"It will have to be things which are right for the club and individuals and me and in terms of what happens in the next couple of weeks."
Legit.ng earlier reported that Frank Lampard has hinted the door is still open for Toni Rudiger and Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave in the ongoing transfer window.
It is believed Rudiger is frustrated with lack of game time at Stamford Bridge, with the defender yet to feature for the Blues this season.
However, the German star has made the bench for two of his side's opening matches of the new season, including their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.
