Kogi explosion: Many feared dead in massive inferno

- A lot of school children in Kogi lost their lives on Wednesday, September 23

- Many cars were also damaged along the Lokoja-Abuja major road in the state

- These tragedies occurred after a petrol tanker collided with another vehicle in motion

A petrol tanker explosion that erupted in Felele, along the Lokoja-Abuja road in Kogi on Wednesday, September 23, has claimed the lives of many persons including students of the Kogi State Polytechnic (KSP).

Eyewitnesses revealed to journalists that the fuel tanker collided with another vehicle in motion and thus caused an instant explosion.

The tragedy got worse when other oncoming vehicles drove into the huge flames and resulted in the destruction of not less than 10 cars, The Nation reports.

Staff of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) temporarily closed down the major road to prevent more damage as operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) alongside firefighters were seen at the scene trying to quench the flames.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported about a ghastly accident along the Okene road in Kogi state which claimed the life of Mallam Yusuf Chinedozi Nwoha, the director of administration at the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

Nwoha died in the ghastly accident on his way to Owerri, the capital of Imo state to celebrate the Sallah festival. A statement signed by NSCIA's chairman, media committee, Femi Abba read:

“With heavy hearts and impregnable sobriety, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affair (NSCIA) hereby announces the demise of its Director of Administration, Mallam Yusuf Chinedozi Nwoha.
"He died in a road accident at Okene, Kogi State, on his way to Owerri in Imo State for Eidul Adha last Wednesday.”
