Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo governorship election has vowed to end clashes between herders and farmers in the state.

The governorship candidate disclosed this while addressing the people of Aiyede/Ogbese, Ilu Abo, Bolorunduro, Alayere and Eleyeowo communities during his campaign rally.

Vanguard reports that Jegede lamented that the current administration failed to do the needful in brokering a lasting truce between herders and farmers across the state.

Going further, Jegede who was a former attorney general and justice commissioner in the state decried the condition of roads linking the communities.

He described them as an eyesore, promising to construct befitting road networks.

“We will also provide other social amenities such as pipe-borne water and health centres that are currently lacking in the areas.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that ahead of the Ondo governorship election, the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, called on his opponent, Jegede, to maintain peace during his campaign.

This warning from Governor Akeredolu came after some vehicles reportedly belonging to the PDP candidate were destroyed by thugs in the Akoko Southwest local government area of the state.

Legit.ng had also reported that concerns had been raised and allegations made that some thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo are beginning to strike terror in the minds of residents.

The claim was made by Segun Sowunmi, a spokesman for Atiku Abubakar during his presidential campaign in 2019.

Sowunmi in a statement made available to Legit.ng alleged that the thugs were working with the approval of the Ondo state government to taunt Jegede.
